As part of the AVarq Studio team, we were commissioned to design the renovation of Casa Indios Desnudos, an iconic Costa Rican residence originally conceived by Cañas Arquitectos.
The main challenge was to intervene in a house that holds significant national recognition and a distinct architectural character. Our approach was to respect its existing language while responding to the client's requests and adapting seamlessly to the original design.
The project focused on remodeling the pool area — introducing a covered terrace with a tensile roof, a jacuzzi, and outdoor showers — as well as redesigning an existing walkway. The goal was to refresh the atmosphere of the space and create new ways of experiencing the outdoors and the exceptional surrounding views.
I contributed to the design development, 3D modeling, and rendering of the project. When visualizing the proposal, our aim was not only to communicate the architectural outcome, but to evoke what it would feel like to inhabit the space — the textures, the light, and the views that define its context. For this, we used Revit for modeling and Lumion for environmental rendering and atmosphere simulation.
This project became a valuable experience in balancing architectural preservation and contemporary intervention — an exercise in listening to the existing structure while giving it new life. It reinforced my ability to work collaboratively within a design studio, manage detail across scales, and translate architectural ideas into compelling visual narratives.
